MindShow

A short EEG session and a spoken story shape a generative visual sequence, later shared as an object for reflection.

W.01 / Artistic question

What changes when a person is simultaneously material, co-author and observer?

A participant’s state and narrative become a personal audiovisual composition.

Inside the work

A signal becomes an image

A participant wears an EEG headset and observes how relative signal parameters change an abstract visual pattern. The image keeps transforming, inviting attention to sensations and associations. The participant both contributes material and observes it; interpretation remains with the person.

Narrative and a digital artefact

In versions with text and visual AI layers, participants describe the images they perceive. Their words and the parametric video become material for a sequence of scenes and an audiovisual composition. Several participants’ results may be shown together. These layers depend on the version; delivery and storage of a personal digital result are agreed for each presentation.

One work, several configurations

Early festival presentations, including BYOB 2019, used the name MindGrid; MindShow became established later. An interactive area, VJ accompaniment and a standalone performance share an artistic principle but differ in participation, equipment and staging.

Work materials

The visualisation is an artistic experience, not a diagnosis. Session duration and visitor flow depend on the selected configuration.

Working with the project

Adaptable installation format; technical scope and rights confirmed per commission.

MindShow installation

A participant-led audiovisual encounter for exhibitions and events.

A participant enters a short observation session: signal parameters become the basis of a responsive visual field. Narrative versions add associations or a story that develops into an imagery animation.

Participation and outcome

The main stand configuration uses successive individual sessions. Other visitors can observe; stage and VJ versions are scoped separately.

A responsive audiovisual experience; a recording or personal digital artefact depends on the selected configuration and consent terms.

Conditions and parameters

Space
The archival rider specifies an area from 6 m². Actual layout and queueing are agreed with the venue.
Session duration
Duration depends on the mode: a short demonstration or a session with a personal narrative. We agree timing and participant changeover for each presentation.
Visitor flow
The events overview gives 15–20 people per hour. This is an archival configuration estimate, not a promise for every venue.
Operation
Operator shifts, hygiene breaks, long-running operation and result delivery are agreed in the brief.

These parameters refer to the versions described. We will prepare a separate rider for your event.

Studio and venue

ODA.dream
Neural interface, laptop and authored software · Artistic configuration, operator and facilitator as scoped
Venue / organizer
Screen/TV and HDMI; the archival rider specifies 65″ or larger · Table, chair, power and agreed area · Sound and queue coordination as scoped

Simultaneously measured participants are not the audience size. Throughput is confirmed after selecting the mode.

Requires a dedicated area, display, EEG equipment and an operator; final configuration depends on the venue.
