Paradox of Success
Players discover the rules through a short live round while spectators read the changing visual field.
Can a contest reward the capacity to regulate oneself rather than force?
A two-person contest where attention and calm move a shared virtual object.
About the work
- Two players per round
- Approx. 90-second round
- DANO Olympiad · Moscow, 2025
Inside the work
Competition without physical force
Two players control one virtual object. Depending on the mode, the game responds to relative changes in alpha or beta activity. Winning may call for calm or focus rather than conventional effort: hence the Paradox of Success. A round’s result belongs to the game’s rules, not to an assessment of intelligence or personality.
Players and observers
The mechanics are learned during a short round. Spectators watch the shared object move, discuss strategies and may join the next duel. Individual matches or a tournament sequence change the organisation of participation; headset fitting, briefing and player changes remain part of delivery.
Historical names
The work was previously known as Neurobattle and Neurobattl. It is now presented as Paradox of Success. The event page tells the story of its presentation at the DANO Olympiad.
Recordings and publications
Presentation recordings, interviews and publications about the work.
Work materials
Headset setup, briefing and participant changeover take place in addition to the game round. They are included when planning visitor flow.

Participation and outcome
One game station has two simultaneous participants. Individual duels or a tournament sequence are possible; the audience is counted separately.
A shared game experience and a discussion of ways to participate. The game result is not an assessment of intelligence or personal worth.
